Life Overload

So, as I previously mentioned, I received a promotion about six weeks ago. It was something I was working hard to achieve and a promotion that I REALLY wanted before the busy Christmas Season.

Well, you know how they say, “be careful what you wish for….” So true.

While getting a nice promotion before the Holidays can be a blessing, when it comes to retail…it can be a bit scary.

I love the extra responsibility and feel comfortable in the new role, but I feel so driven to succeed and thrive in this position that I am turning into a bit of an unlikely workaholic. I don’t think I left work on time in ALL of last week, and I spend much more time off now answering questions or even just talking about my job.

Today is my Saturday (I scored today AND tomorrow off) and I am thrilled to have some rest before the busy holiday season, but I can’t help but feel that I am needed at work. That is probably just the control freak in me. :)

I also PROMISED myself some time today to catch up on my novel. I am falling seriously behind, and even more than last year, I want to finish this challenge. Just gotta make the time.

I have started the morning with 650 words, but I know that is not nearly enough. I need to clear 5000 before lunch, and maybe an additional 2000 before we head out to the valley to help our friend celebrate his birthday.

Oh, you want a quick synopsis. It is not NEARLY as detailed as the one I posted on my book last year, but you get the idea.

“A ragtag group of adventurers must stop a growing threat to their lands, or risk the destruction of that which they hold dear. Though strangers at first, the group must band together to fight the most devastating hoard that any have encountered.”

Also, this book is set in a made up land of my own creation!

Alright, I poured myself a cup of brain food (in a TARDIS mug….helps me think) and I am ready to knock out a few thousand words!

Wish me luck!

How are YOU doing on your NANOWRIMO Novel?

Leaving On a Jet Plane…

All my bags are packed I’m ready to go…

Actually, that’s a lie. All my bags are most decidedly NOT packed.

NOT…

And My flight leaves in 10 hours…

Woops.

Why do I ALWAYS do this. I have a Mother that packs like a week before she goes away. Me. Nope. Ten Seven hours.

Oh well. At least I am going to get away with my husband and see my family for a few days. I NEED some time away from life. Truth is, there have been a lot of changes lately.

My last blog post was way too long ago…but it was also about my dislike of change and how my life has been in flux. That is the reason why I have been so long between posts.

I just have not known what to say.

Many of my friends want me to talk about more of my private life in the blog, and while I don’t disagree, I am a fairly private person and taking that step into sharing my hopes and fears into such a public forum is scary. Know that I am trying…but this won’t happen overnight.

Things with the big May wedding have been progressing swiftly. We just ordered our wedding invitations, a good two or three months early by the estimations of most wedding websites. I like getting things done early. We are just about seven months away from the wedding and we only have three big things to cross off the list:

An officiant…which is not a huge thing for me since we are legally married already. Though, since we do want to have a religious ceremony, we do need to find someone who can do more than a standard ceremony or vow renewal…

Either a tux rental or suit rental for the guys…

And a bridesmaid dress.

That’s it. Of course, little details make a big difference…but more than seven months out these three items are the only big issues left to finalize. I fear that the few months leading up to the wedding will be mundane. At least I know I won’t flip out from my normal last minute hesitations. :)

Oh, and I got a promotion.

A big promotion.

There, I said it. It is something I have been working towards for a while now, but given a lot of what happened over the past month, it was a bit bittersweet.

But it feels good. To work for something, and to achieve that goal and be recognized for all you do. :)

In case you didn’t notice, I have been writing this blog for three hours. So I would say it’s time to wrap it up. All packed up (now…but not when I started writing this). I have a snack for the plane, charging my camera and syncing my iPod!

See you in Florida!

Happy Friday!!

Published on August 27, 2012, by in Uncategorized.

Relax, you didn’t sleep through the week. I know that today is actually Monday…but tonight is my last night of work until Thursday and that is very exciting.

I have not had two days off in one week since the wedding (and I only have one day off again next week), so I am going to make the most out of my mid week weekend!

I was pleased when I woke up this morning only feeling moderatly crummy after an entire weekend of sickness, and I would like to report that many hours (and tons of liquid) later, I feel almost totally healed.

Now, I know I still owe you TONS of details about my recent nuptials, and even more details about next year’s big May wedding, but for now you must allow me time to play Guild Wars 2 for a few days. Being sick and not really playing for a few days has been KILLING me.

Tonight I may be heading over to a friend’s house to kick my “weekend” off, but after that it’s going to be all gaming…and maybe a bit of house work. We still have not really done much since coming back from Vegas, and we really need to get our butts in gear!

Alright, almost off my dinner break. Back to work and then… TWO glorious days of freedom. :)

Breakfast With A Bridesmaid

This morning was delicious. I got to have breakfast with one of my favorite ladies (and a bridesmaid for my upcoming Vegas Nuptials).

We love Norms. They really are so wonderful. I don’t know what I will do when we leave California and I have to learn to live without Norms.

It is the perfect way to start a day. Good food. Good friends. Nothing could be finer.

Too bad I have to go to work…

Still on a healthy kick, I tried to do my best when all I was really craving was biscuits and gravy.

I have not made it to the gym in two days though, so cheating was NOT an option.

I did okay. Egg white scramble with salsa, sausage, bacon, cottage cheese, wheat toast and some blue berries.

Delicious.

After breakfast I had to make a quick trip to Whimsic Alley (the Harry Potter Store In Los Angeles) to pick up some stuff.

But now I have to go to work for the rest of the day, though I may try to hit up the gym on the way home.

Happy Saturday everyone. And for those of you who get the day of, enjoy!

Getting Through the Work Day: Coffee

image

I think most people would agree that when it comes to getting through their work days, they have a number of things that they cannot do without. For me, my number one, “cannot function without” is coffee.

This is as true in a traditonal work environment as it will be when I work from home. It isn’t just that it provides a much needed jolt in the morning (which is a big part of it) but it is also the flavorful taste, the tantalizing aroma. Is there anything better than waking up to a fresh pot of coffee wafting into the bedroom? I don’t actually think so. :)

So what is your must have, cannot live without work day essential?

Restless…

I don’t feel incredibly content in my current work situation. Since giving up acting last year, I feel like happiness has been a daily struggle. I love my life. I love my fiancé and our two adorable cats. I love my family and I am grateful for my health and the fact that I even have a job. But it is so hard doing anything different once you give up such a long standing dream.

I have two jobs, actually and I am happy to have the employment. I don’t dislike my current work situation due to any fault of my employers. It’s just not what I always dreamed of doing. In the weeks that come, I plan to do a substantial about of research and digging into both on-line jobs and jobs that I can do from anywhere. The notion of being my own boss, making my own hours and working from home is an appealing one.

I HAVE to make a new plan for my life. I have to.  I cannot keep feeling like I am dying inside.

Yesterday, however, was about living.

Mark and I woke up at around 8:30 and headed out to Runyon Canyon for a hike with friends. Despite the fact that I am anxious to leave Los Angeles, I cannot dispute the beauty that is to be found here in so many places.

Runyon Canyon is one of those places.

It was nice to get out and be active before going to work. It has a touch of that European lifestyle I desire….the thought that you can have a job and a life as well.

After the hike, the five of us had breakfast and just enjoyed the lovely day.

After work, many of us met up again to bid farewell to a wonderful friend (who is heading back home to Ohio). We had Late Night Happy Hour drinks at one of Sunset Strip’s best little bar’s, Cabo Cantina. 2 for 1 happy hour twice a day? Yes please!

If you are ever in Hollywood, make sure you check this place out. The drinks are affordable anyway, but half the time the little bar is open, it’s happy hour! And the food here is to die for.

Now it is time for a little bit of exercise (I am getting married in three months) and then off to the restaurant for another night of work.

Catching Up To Reality

Published on May 19, 2012, by in WonderCon.

It is nice to finally be all caught up on blog. The WonderCon posts took so much out of me. I loved writing them, but before Comic Con, I would like to try to find a better android blog posting app so that I can post daily blogs from the convention. It is too hard to come back from a crazy weekend like that, and expect to blog the experiance well. Whatever you say can not do justice to the event, especially when you have to wait to post.

Also, the fact that we became engaged right at the end of the Convenetion added to my delay.

For the past two months, I have been engaged to the most wonderful man that I have ever known. In the whirlwind that followed, I somehow neglected to share that wonderful story. Being so back logged on WonderCon blog posts only delayed the propsal story longer. I didn’t feel like I could share the details until I told you how we got to that point…so that was why I waited so long. It almost felt like the proposal story best followed the WonderCon wrap up as a climax.

That’s all in the past now. I finished the WonderCon wrap up and finally posted the nerdtastic proposal story. And in the next few days, I am excitied to start sharing all of the wonderfully nerdy wedding details.

Back on the Con front however, I forget to mention that I was accepted to receive a Comic Con Professionals badge. This means that I now have four days of access to the con, plus the preview night. I also was able to get a refund for the two tickets I already purchased.

I was not able to get Mark a guest pass however. Total bummer. This means that unless we can find a friend with an extra professional pass or something, we will still only be going for the two original days.

It isn’t that big of a deal. At least now I know I can get a professional badge again next year, and I get my 80 bucks back…so that’s fun!

We have a big couple of months coming up. A trip to PA to begin planning the wedding in one month (one month from Today, in fact). Then we have Comic Con in July. One month after that we are grtting married in Las Vegas, and in October I am going back to Florida to be in my good friend Tina’s wedding.

Talk about a whirlwind.

Tonight I get off work early. So I am going to meet a friend for dinner and drinks.

Any bloggers out there have advice for a better blogging app I can download for my android. I’m not a fan of the WordPress app because you can only add pictures at the beginning or end of the post and not through out. Any advice would be appriciated.

Shipping off to Alderaan and Yoda pops into Project 365

So I finally finished Tatooine tonight. That planet is out of control huge with so many quests, but it wasn’t my least favorite place so far (that honor goes to Taris and its vast sweeping wastelands) so it was enjoyable right up until the end. Those last couple of quests killed me. I was just so anxious to move along and advance my storyline.

Luckily, I was helped along by my favorite smuggler (aside from Han of course).

This adorable avatar next to mine (With the Wookie) is Kram. That’s Mark backwards for those of you paying attention, and he is played by my wonderfully nerdy partner in crime/significant other.

We have been playing together all night, and I finally logged a few minutes ago because I can’t believe I have been sitting in one position for this long.

I think tomorrow will be a night off from Star Wars. My friend is trying to catch up to us, but also…I miss human interaction.

So for now, I am safe and sound with my crew aboard the ship, gaining rest EXP. When I return on Alderaan (This is the Old Republic, so it hasn’t been blown up yet) I should have a nice stash of double exp coming my way. Makes for faster leveling.

I’m pretty far behind on my project 365ing…so I’m gonna throw up some pictures over the next few days in an attempt to catch up. I am still taking the photos daily…It’s the uploading that kills me.

Alright, here we go…

1.17.2012

This is the ceiling at the Glendale Galleria, where I was working this Holiday season. I thought it would make a cool picture.

1.18.2012

My friend Pope’s adorable puppy Bonka in a rare moment of calm.

1.19.2012

“Yoda. You seek Yoda…” and hot chocolate, apparently.

No, really. It was late, and I was tired and I thought hot coco might make a cool picture….and Mark snuck Yoda into the shot. Yeah, I loved it.

1.20.2012

The Screensaver on Mark’s desktop is what it would look like if he were navigating an asteroid field. He is my favorite. <3

1.21.2012

Our bedroom has many Eiffel Tower’s contained in a small space. I don’t really know why.

1.22.2012

Fluffy white adorableness while watching the playoff’s on Sunday.Cute overdose.

Okay, that’s enough.

I am helping out at a new store tomorrow for work, so I am going to head off to read a bit of “City of Glass,” by Cassandra Claire. Book Three in The Mortal Instruments series. Really good reads, by the way.

I promise to keep you updated on my in-game progress. Still searching for answers to the plague.

How are you all fairing?

What Winter Is Made Of ….

  • 1 part unhealthy food
  • 1 part insanity
  • 2 parts sleep deprivation
  • 3 parts biting off way more than I can chew

But despite the fact that I failed terribly at maintaining this blog, while working 3 jobs and attempting to write my first novel as part of November’s National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo as it is affectionately called, I did actually finish the novel.

Er….

I finished 50,000 words at least, during November, which was the ultimate goal. The fact that it still remains on my computer unedited and without an ending should have no bearing on the fact that I did actually finish that which I sought out to achieve.

As of today I am also officially slightly less crazy.  Yay!

My seasonal employment at The American Girl Cafe in the Grove of Los Angeles has come to an end, and though my parting with such a fantastic company was somewhat bittersweet, I do look forward to the (hopeful) break that a mere two jobs should afford me.

I also started a new project on January 1st, because, after all, I do still take on more than I can handle.

Project 365:

The idea is to take a photo a day for a year. Some people do this to improve their photography skill, or keep track of an entire year in one’s life. I am doing it for all of these reasons, and also because I failed last year which was supremely un-cool of me.

I’ll try to update the blogs photos as least every other day or so, but here is what I have taken so far!

They are organized in the gallery in order from left to right and down from January 1st, through the 8th. I have yet to take a picture for today, but will update as soon as I do.

Oooh, and the MOST exciting. I purchased tickets for WonderCon yesterday! Normally this convention is held in the San Fransisco Bay area, but due to renovations on their convention center, the Con has been temporarily moved to Anaheim. As it is being hosted during my birthday weekend, I thought it would be the perfect surprise getaway for the geeky love of my life, and myself (his equally geeky girlfriend).

Really excited about the new year and I am sending positive New Year vibes to each of you!

Day I Don’t Even Know of #NaNoWriMo…

Oh gosh. Do you wanna know what crazy is?

Crazy is three jobs during the holidays, while pledging to write a novel in a month and keeping a daily blog.

So…I obviously did not maintain a daily blog, but I’ve been sick and crazy tired and plagued by computer viruses…virusi? Virus? Whatever.

So…I wrote today. Just over 2000 words. Still painfully behind, but still fighting.

Soup and TV before bed. Another early morning…

Sam
