I have to admit, this show really is a great way to spend a Sunday. More than just cast members, these people have really became more of a family for me during the past couple of years.
The show is happiness, and adrenaline, and comedy, and fantasy with a little bit of magic mixed in…and our season opener was no exception.
We meet at the theatre between 2:30 and 3:00 on show days. There is much to be done in the way of pulling props, costumes, wigs, weapons…ect. After we get that finished it’s on to the rehearsal process. The first show back every season always seems to come with a bit more chatter. Everyone is excited to be back, and happy to see each other.
We had a pretty small season opener cast-wise, so we got started fairly close to time.
There were lots of details to hammer out. Though it is an improv based show, we do have scripts. As you can see, Cary was The God of War.
Coleman insisted on numerous occasion that he is not, in fact, Harry Potter turned Slytherin.
I was not buying his refusal. “Thou thinks thou dost protest too much…”
In this season of the show, The Karen God is having a bit of a crisis. She needs to search her soul, as the people of Atoll of driving her a little bit crazy with their constant spell casting. But, not wanting to leave the people without her guidance, she splits off aspects of herself. The aspects of War, Peace, and Revelry…God’s in their own right.
Cary and I…also known as War and Peace
Of course, she also accidentally creates the aspect of Chaos.
In the first show of the season, “The Fall” the three aspects (and the fourth in secret) take turns granting the spells and desires of the good people of Atoll, as an adventuring party sets off to find the Sphinx and the answer to the question, “What has happened to The Karen God?” You see, The Karen God’s aspects are granting the spells of Atoll in rather unusual ways, and people have gotten suspicious.
In an unforgettable encounter with the Sphinx in the show’s final scenes, the party is unable to answer the creature’s riddle and the entire adventuring party is devoured (this is called a Total Party Kill, or TPK…and they are awesome).
The Sphinx spares only the guide, Marko, in the hopes that he will return to the Priestess with a warning to never send another group to her.
After the show, many of the cast and audience enjoy dinner and snacks at Denny’s on sunset. We talk about the show, and a variety of other nerdy topics. Which US president would beat who in battle. By bet is on Teddy Roosevelt.
With my friend and loyal audience member/character Courtney
And for Today’s show, we pick up where that left off….still needing an answer to the question of The Karen God’s whereabouts.

What’s going on tonight:
The Karen God has split in three while she is off finding herself like Julia Roberts. The War Aspect is temporarily in charge while she’s gone, shaping the world according to his vision.
If only someone had asked the Great Sphinx what could be done to bring the Karen God back. Too bad the last group of adventurers who went to find out never made it back…
