WonderCon Return for 2013

Yes yes. I know it has been literally ages since my last blog post. I took on a LOT during this first half of the year and with the wedding coming up I am battling to find a balance.

And while we are on the topic of balance, you should know that I am dialing back on the blog. I am really enjoying the other things I am producing for Dungeon Master and want to focus more on creation of content than on trying to shove a random blog down your throat. This site will be evolving into something else over the next months and I am really excited to see what it becomes.

You will be hearing a lot from me over the next week and a half or so, though! Why is that, you ask?

Well, this coming weekend is WONDERCON and that means lots of blogging with a dash of live tweeting mixed in!

Woo! I love Con culture so much and I am looking forward to this more than you can understand. I have been so stressed with wedding planning and work so I super cannot wait to get away to geektopia for a weekend.

Okay! I’ll catch you soon!

Throwback Thursday: Zelda – A Link to the Past

Today on the blog, I am going to be introducing a segment that I am going to call, “Throwback Thursday.” Every Thursday (or at least the ones I end up posting on….I really am trying to get better at daily posts) I will introduce a product or topic or old photo that fits the category, “Throwback Thursday.”

Today, I am going to start at the only place that makes sense.

Nintendo.

Or really….Super Nintendo.

Super Nintendo was the first gaming console that I really loved…and I didn’t even own one! If I wanted to play, I had to go hang out with my best friend Tamara at her house.

(Wow! Talk about a Throwback)….

But she was awesome about it, and even had a saved game for me in Zelda: A Link To The Past.

Both she and her brother just let the game stay on their console, and I was the only one who played it.

Now that is friendship.

Okay, why am I calling this Throwback Thursday: Super Nintendo?

Let’s call it what it is. Throwback Thursday: Zelda-A Link to the Past.

Man, I loved that game. The story is just so great! Even the beginning, when you wake up in a storm, sneak into the castle, taste adventure and find a sword! Man, best game ever!

As a matter of fact, when Mark and I got a Nintendo Wii a few years back, it was the first game I downloaded.

Come to think of it, I never did end up beating it.

I gotta get on that.

Tell me a bit about your throwbacks. What was your favorite console or video game from when you were little?

Getting Back To The Essence of Nerdom

In the coming days and weeks, your going to see a lot of changes to this site. Over the past year, my blog has transformed into something that I wasn’t quite expecting and I want to take it back to the root of what it once was.

Just a nerdy girl talking about stuff.

In the craziness if the last few months, I have spent more time talking about the mediocre aspects of my life, and less about ny passion and love for all things nerd.

Well, no more. There are a lot of new and exciting things happening within the company of Dungeon Master, and MANY con appearances are scheduled as well.

I hope to become true to this blog once more, and give you a reason to come back each day. I look forward to the changes.

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday!

My blog is turning one today!

Technically the blog was established for my acting career 2 years ago, but since focusing on this format and becoming hosted at NecessaryNerdom.com it has been one year!

For more on this first year, you can check out my New Year’s post.

I was craving a nice warm oatmeal for breakfast this morning (It has been rather chilly in LA these last few nights and mornings), but I didn’t realize that I am out of oats. :(

So, I got creative instead.

I toasted two multi-grain waffles, and then topped them with some warmed up strawberries, drizzled in just a bit of honey and finished off with fresh banana slices. A little OJ for vitamin C.

Hit the spot.

And yes, that is the TARDIS you see in the photo.

For our wedding, two of our good friends got us a TARDIS cookie jar, that even lights up and makes noise. I love it so much!

I have to leave for work in just a few minutes, and the plan is to hit the gym on my way home again tonight. I will have more time at the gym today than I did yesterday, so I might even brave a new piece of equipment.

Have a great day!

How old is your blog? Or when did you just start blogging in general?

In Bed with the TARDIS.

Published on August 27, 2012, by in 2012.

Much to my dismay, rather than playing Guild Wars 2 during every extra moment that I have had since the game began it’s head start late Friday night, I have spent my extra time in bed.

I hate being sick, but it seems to be pretty common in my life following high stress or very busy periods of time. I’m currently one of two managers at a store that should have at least 3 and I just got married, so I think it is safe to say that I have been stressed. I also probably never recovered from Vegas.

So, after getting in a quick game session in GW2, I am now laying in bed, watching a movie and sipping throat coat tea out of the TARDIS….

I suppose if you gotta be sick, be sick with the TARDIS.

Night.

15 Days of Comic-Con Posts: #1 – Discovering Comics

Comic Con 2012 was a wonderfully nertastic weekend of geeks, gamers, nerdy eye candy, video games, shopping and role playing. Not to mention dice and drinking. But this years Comic Con convention brought something that last year’s did not.

Comics.

For me at least, anyway.

I was just never much for Comics in the past. I certainly loved the movies and television shows that were based on comics, but I never found them at a young age, nor did I discover one I was interested in as an adult.

Well, that all changed this year at Comic Con.

It all started back in March at WonderCon. We went to Anaheim for the Comic Convention and my birthday, and it was there that I spotted the IDW booth and a poster that would start my journey to discovering comics.

Assimilation was still yet to be released back in March, but the mere idea of a Doctor Who/Star Trek cross-over comic was enough to peak my interest. But since it wasn’t out yet, my excitement for the comic soon faded.

Until I went back to Comic Con last weekend. The IDW booth was literally the first booth that we saw once entering the exhibit hall, and I was immediately reminded of my hunger for the comic.

I walked up and asked if it had a release date yet….and was bummed to hear that it had already come out, and that they had sold out all of the first and second issue at the preview night.

:(

He told me they saved 100 or so for the comic signing the following day, and if I had the time and patience to stand in line for the signing, I would be able to buy a copy.

I wasn’t sure what kind of line I might have to stand in, but I knew I wanted the comic, and I didn’t want to leave without it. I was told to arrive 15 minutes before the signing and I should be able to get a copy with no problems.

I arrived 30 minutes early.

I was first in line and I was thrilled. I knew I would be able to get my comic since I was first, and getting it signed by THREE people was a bonus I hadn’t expected. I wasn’t alone in line for long. I met a few fellow Doctor Who fans; the conversation was easy and enjoyable and the 30 minutes passed quickly. Waiting in that quick line was actually a highlight of the day.

They opened the signing and I stepped right up to see not two but SEVEN covers! I couldn’t decide which I preferred, so I bought them all and the artists quickly got to work signing the masterpieces.

I was so excited.

The folks at star trek even snapped a picture of me, and when I arrived home after the Con two of my friends informed me that I was featured on the star trek Facebook page.

That is me in the glasses with the green bag and the TARDIS earrings. Hehe…cool.

I’m just glad I got a photo with the artists. Had I not been featured on the page, I wouldn’t have gotten a photo at all. The signing, and the buying of my first EVER comic was a HUGE highlight of the con and I am so glad I took the time out of the day to accommodate the event… now I have some good reading material and probable collectors items all at the same time.

What was the first Comic you ever bought?

2011 San Diego Comic-Con Wrap Up: Day Two

By the time you read this, I will be in line to pick up my badge for the 2012 Comic-Con, but I had to finish last year’s wrap up of my first ever Comic-Con convention (we only went for two days, much like this year…though this year we are doing day 2 and 3).

Day One: Thursday

Day Two: Friday

We started the morning out by gathering the stuff from the hotel room, and checking out of the King’s Inn before heading over to the Hotel’s apparently famous breakfast place, “The Waffle Spot.” And, by the way…seriously delicious.

I can’t remember what I ordered, but I think it was a waffle and eggs and meat. Doesn’t matter. Everything was wonderful. If you are in San Diego, I highly recommend this place for breakfast. Locals even came in from downtown to eat. Yum.

After that it was onto the hotel shuttle to the Con. We didn’t want to have to pay for parking again, and the hotel was happy to let us leave our car and come back later. Score!

Mark started the day off at the Exhibition hall with some video games.

Can’t say that I was too surprised.

Then it was off for more exploring. Even though we spent practically the whole day in the hall the day before, we still had only made it about half way through all the incredible stuff!

We met these guys the night before at the bar the mixer was held at! :)

I got to meet an alien…

And a Stormtrooper.

Mark had fun at the Harry Potter booth

And I got to be an honorary Avenger.

Um, may I please have this car?

After getting tired of walking and shopping…

I got Mark this awesome shirt (It says, “REGRET. Those were the droids I was looking for.”)

and a beautiful silver ring for myself….

We wondered over to the Hyatt where they were playing Dungeons and Dragons. I passed out some post-cards for Legends of Atoll and met up with Bradd, the show’s Production Designer/Co-Producer/Puppet master/Superhero!

We joined in and played a one hour game of D and D while shamelessly promoting the web-series.

Then it was off to the food trucks for an early dinner. On the way back, we stopped by Southpark.

And then back to the exhibition hall.

We LOVED the Spartacus display, though we couldn’t help but feel a little sad that the show’s star was so ill, and since then has passed (RIP Andy Whitfield).

Right before the hall closed, I went downstairs and bought Mark and I a couple decks of “Magic: The Gathering Cards” so that our nerdy joy could continue even after we returned home. It was very exciting.

On our way back to the Comic-Con shuttle, we checked out Cafe Diem across the street. The food wasn’t free like it should have been (Eureka Fans) lol, and the line was too long so we just checked it out.

But then it was time to leave the cafe and leave the Con. :(

We were very sad to go, but the happy meal toys at McDonald’s took the sting out a bit.

Mark tried to learn how to play Magic on the car ride home, but we were both pretty sad to go. It was one of the best two days of both of our lives and we cannot wait to return this year.

Oh My God Of Thunder…!!!

What a wonderful Leap Day morning.

I awoke to a facebook message left by my nerdy friend Dana (Of Being Fans) and it set the bar for the rest of the day.

I NEED to share this wonderful trailer with you all now. It is truly a trailer that is worthy of a day that only comes around every four years…

The Avengers!

The Daily Brew: Coffee Cups – Ghosts and Legends

Did you miss the other two posts in this series?

Find out why I even collect coffee cups and see my amazing/nerdy collection unfold.

The Daily Brew: Coffee Cups – Salem
The Daily Brew: Coffee Cups – Bizarro

Mark made the coffee this morning. :)

Nothing better than waking up to the aromatic smell of roasted beans wafting into the bedroom. Delicious!

Also, everything always tastes just a little bit better when you don’t have to make it yourself.

I got this morning’s cup about four years ago, when my parents came to LA to visit me (and meet Mark for the first time).

We stayed the night on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, and even went on the Ghosts and legends tour of the boat. The tour was incredibly interesting, and the vast history of the ship, even more so.

I, of course, got the spooky mug.

The rest of that weekend was really fun, as well. We went to the Aquarium of the Pacific and ate wonderful food, but staying the night on the boat was a pretty darn cool experience. :)

And I always have those memories on the morning’s I reach for that Queen Mary mug.
